On August 19th 2016 the fourth edition of the Amsterdam Maker Festival took place. After earlier editions in the Kromhouthal and at the NDSM terrain in Amsterdam North, we now landed on the Marineterrein in the city centre of Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam Maker Festival was part of a new concept called Nerderlands. The main goal of the festival is to connect Makers with the public, with eachother, to inspire and to showcase how much fun and useful the art of Making is.

2016 THEME: WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITIES

This year the team of Amsterdam Maker Festival guaranteed a weekend full of inspiration, whereby Makers, companies and organisations came to showcase their innovative knowledge and science.

The whole weekend was in the light of a window with a lot of opportunities. The Amsterdam Maker Festival facilitated, together with our partners, a weekend in which the visitors experienced a lot of hearing, seeing, tasting, sensing and ofcourse Making.

The festival took place on August 19th through to 21st 2016 and was at a special place in the heart of Amsterdam; the Marineterrein. Marineterrein Amsterdam is undergoing changes. It is a historic location in the middle of the city that was inaccessible until recently. In the 17th century this was the place where the best Makers worked together to create the most advance warships. Nowadays this is the place where innovative Makers – with Makerversity as the lead – deliver an important part to the future of the terrain as wel as the whole city of Amsterdam.

The Marineterrein was divided in different themes: Tech, Crafts and Make it Yourselves. Next to that the visitors experienced a lot of entertainment and information. This was a 3-day event with alot of inspiration for all.

Marineterrein Amsterdam

The Marineterrein Amsterdam is an oasis of tranquillity and focus in the centre of a dynamic city. The Amsterdam Maker Festival is part of Nerderlands, a new festival for the international tech scene, from 14-21 August in Amsterdam. Nerderlands is organised by the leading Amsterdam-based tech communities with startups, and companies. The 2016 edition of Nerderlands is a co-production of Appsterdam and StartupAmsterdam.

Amsterdam Made

The idea to establish Amsterdam Made was created by a small group of local makers. Soon after the first steps were made there was a lot of interest in the project, which quickly garnered more than forty members. The initiative turned out to be a good fit for Amsterdam Council’s search for a business that would create and uphold a quality mark for products created or made in the metropolitan area of Amsterdam. Foundation Amsterdam Made is the only approved certifier of the quality mark, which was established to stimulate craftmanship and the local economy.

Makerversity is a pioneering community of emerging maker businesses. At our Somerset House HQ in central London and now, central Amsterdam, we are kickstarting the third industrial revolution. We provide access to a range of studio, event and fabrication spaces and prototyping tools for our diverse member businesses.

Nemo brings the importance of science and technology to the attention of a wide audience. We present complex subjects in a fun and accessible way. This is done at the well-known NEMO Science Museum, in schools and online. In this way, we help build a smart society. We can only achieve our goals with the help of our partners.

TEDx Binnenhof

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBinnenhof, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBinnenhof events, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
