Van.Eko was founded in December 2012 by Vaniek Colenbrander. It was the result of years of research on the application of natural materials in electric scooters. In collaboration with NPSP, the University of Technology in Delft and Inholland, Colenbrander developed an electric scooter prototype with a monocoque frame made entirely out of hemp fiber, flax and a 50% bio-resin. With this unique concept, no metal is used in the scooter frame and the entire frame is made out of only two bonded shells. In collaboration with the Dutch Design agency Waarmakers this concept was transformed into the Be.e Electric Scooter, introducing the beginning of Van.Eko. The Be.e electric scooter is the first electric scooter developed in the Netherlands, and the only one being produced in Amsterdam.
The idea behind the Be.e Electric scooter was to bring a vehicle into the world which fits with our needs and desires of today and with those of the future. A special vehicle with a beautiful, innovative design and extraordinary quality, and for which we considered how we could smartly integrate natural materials and minimize our environmental impact.
The Be.e is Van.Eko’s first vehicle, a unique and high-quality E-scooter with a distinctive design and a hemp bio-composite monocoque frame.
Currently the Be.e is available through pre-orders online and via selected tradeshows and exclusive events. The first Be.es will be delivered to our customers in spring 2017.”
